To the worker fighting for equality,
fighting the explotation of your labour,
  while eating a ham sandwich,
    you are almost there.

To the feminist reading about the demented control of the female body,
  of the female reproductive system,
discussing with friends over coffee the injustice of it all,
  while sipping on your latte,
    you are almost there.

To the person of colour reading about generations of trauma,
dedicated to a future where our differences do not justify inequality,
  eating a cheeseburger,
    you are almost there.

To the transgender person longing for respect,
wishing you did not feel so scorned by the masses,
  wearing your down filled jacket,
    you are almost there.

To the animal advocate shaming others wearing fur,
  while you wear leather,
    you are almost there.

To the environmentalist longing for protection of the earth,
while eating your way to extinction,
    you are almost there.

To the white male thinking you are not personally responsible,
wishing that you could dispel the nagging guilt,
while turning the flesh on the BBQ,
    you are almost there.

You want things for yourself -
peace, justice, equality, respect, body autonomy,
  that you deny to others.

You are almost there.

May all beings know peace!

The Peaceable Kingdom

We are not of this world, but are redeemed out of it. Its ways, its customs, its worships, its weapons, we cannot follow. For we are come into the peaceable kingdom of Christ, where swords are beaten into ploughshares and spears into pruning hooks, and none shall hurt nor destroy. — George Fox, Epistle 203 (1659)
